Your questions, our answers
The most sought-after temporary jobs are order pickers, forklift operators, handlers, dock workers, truck drivers and delivery drivers. Demand is particularly strong in logistics warehouses and e-commerce, with peaks in activity before holidays and during commercial sales.
The CACES (Safe Driving Aptitude Certificate) is essential for driving a forklift truck and working as a forklift operator, but many order picker or handler jobs are accessible without certification. The CACES can be obtained in a few days of training and can be funded through temporary work schemes.
Pay starts at the minimum wage (SMIC) for a beginner order picker and increases with productivity, cold-storage, or shift allowances depending on the warehouse. Forklift operators and truck drivers benefit from higher pay. For temporary roles, end-of-assignment and paid leave allowances are also added.
Warehouses often operate on shift patterns, morning or afternoon, and sometimes at night for platforms that ship continuously. These unsocial hours lead to increased rates and bonuses. Some sites also offer classic daytime hours, particularly for administrative and operational roles.
To become a truck driver, you need a Class C or CE licence completed by the FIMO (Compulsory Minimum Initial Training), which are training programs that can be funded through temporary work or career transition schemes. In the warehouse, career progression is common: an order picker can become a forklift operator, then a team leader, and ultimately an operations manager.
