Responsibilities
Perform dosimetric calculations
Establish radiotherapy treatment plans based on medical prescriptions and the patient's anatomical constraints.
Optimize treatment plans
Adjust dose distribution to maximize effectiveness on the target area while preserving surrounding healthy tissue.
Participate in quality control checks
Verify the reliability of equipment and planning software used for treatments.
Ensure record traceability
Document and archive dosimetric data in compliance with safety and quality procedures.
Key skills
Hard skills
Expert use of IT tools dedicated to calculating and simulating radiotherapy treatment plans.
Understanding of radiation-matter interactions required to create safe and effective treatment plans.
Fine-tuning of treatment parameters to combine therapeutic efficacy with the preservation of organs at risk.
Rigorous application of radiotherapy equipment verification procedures.
Soft skills
Essential reliability in calculations on which the safety of the patient's treatment directly depends.
Ability to maintain a high level of focus on demanding technical tasks.
Close collaboration with medical physicists, oncologists, and medical radiation technologists.
Acute awareness of safety issues related to delivering radiation treatments.
Working conditions
Terms
The Dosimetrist works within radiotherapy departments in healthcare facilities (hospitals, cancer research centers, specialized clinics). The position is mostly desk-based, with daytime hours, and requires sustained concentration.
