Flexible, structured and well-paid, temporary work is an option particularly suited to students looking for a job. Compatible with class schedules as well as scholarship status, it allows you to gain experience while funding your studies. Why and how can you benefit from it? We explain.
Thinking outside the box of CDI and CDD contracts
When looking for a student job, the reflex is often to look for a part-time CDD or CDI contract. Yet, temporary employment deserves your full attention: many sectors offer assignments tailored to student profiles, with or without experience. This is notably the case in logistics, the food industry, retail, as well as manufacturing and construction.
Combining studies and temporary assignments
Student, scholarship holder, and temp worker: combining these statuses and rights poses no issue. Students can reap all the benefits of a temporary assignment.
Good to know: wages earned by students aged 25 or under as of January 1st of the tax year are exempt from income tax, up to a limit of three times the monthly SMIC amount for the year.
Temporary work also offers valuable flexibility when studying: "per assignment" contracts are offered by agencies based on the availability (weekdays and weekends) provided by the student. Hiring is simplified, commitment is manageable, and pay is secure.
Enjoying the benefits of student temp work
It is not just a matter of flexibility, but also of opportunities. Because the temporary work sector meeting student demand is natural in many respects:
- the sector is well suited for student jobs during the year, potentially compatible with class schedules, and also offers many summer jobs;
- administrative steps are simplified thanks to agency intermediation;
- temp worker status is regulated and protected;
- it opens up a range of rewarding experiences in the eyes of future employers.
Adding another string to your bow
By choosing temp work, students also discover the specific pay rules of temporary work: the reference salary for the position held (at least the hourly SMIC), plus an end-of-assignment allowance (IFM) and paid leave compensation (ICCP).
Without calling into question traditional student employment routes, temporary work should be seen as another string to their bow... and undoubtedly one of the easiest to pull to hit the employment target.
