We are looking for a Medical Specialist to join a hospital entity within the public healthcare system in Girona.

Job description

Provide specialized and continuous medical care to patients in critical or intermediate severity (semi-critical) conditions admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Semi-critical Care Area.

The professional will be responsible for advanced monitoring, hemodynamic, respiratory, and metabolic stabilization of patients, ensuring early diagnosis and high-complexity intensive treatment under criteria of efficiency, quality of care, and patient safety. They will also coordinate continuity of care with the Emergency Department, Surgical Areas, and other specialties of the center.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Intensive Clinical Care: Evaluation, diagnosis, and continuous treatment of patients admitted to the ICU and Semi-critical units.

  • Life Support and Advanced Techniques: Management and support for multi-organ failure (respiratory, hemodynamic, renal, neurological).

  • Critical Procedures: Indication and performance of invasive and non-invasive techniques (endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation VMI/VMNI, central/arterial line placement, ultrasound in critical patients, continuous renal replacement therapies, etc.).

  • Emergencies and Cardiac Arrest: Leadership and participation in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers and Advanced Life Support at the hospital level as a rapid response team.

  • Care Coordination: Management of admissions, discharges, and assisted transfers in coordination with the Emergency Department, Operating Rooms, Wards, and the Medical Emergency System (SEM).

  • Family Relations: Ensure daily, clear, empathetic, and transparent communication with family members regarding diagnosis, prognosis, and clinical decisions.

  • Quality and Teaching: Participation in clinical sessions, quality/safety committees (Zero Infection, etc.), research projects, and training of medical residents and students.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

Education and Licenses

  • Degree in Medicine and Surgery (Official recognition in Spain is essential for foreign degrees).

  • Specialist Title in Intensive Care Medicine via MIR or official recognition in Spain is valued.

  • Registration with the corresponding Official College of Physicians.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Proven previous experience in Intensive Care Units (ICU), Semi-critical care, or Hospital Resuscitation.

  • Proficiency in the management of electromedicine and advanced intensive monitoring.

  • Postgraduate training / master's degree in critical patient care, clinical ultrasound, VMNI, or Advanced Life Support will be valued.

  • Knowledge of the Catalan health model and electronic health records (HES/E-CAP or similar).

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to respond quickly, calmly, and rigorously in high-pressure and life-threatening situations.

  • Empathy, sensitivity, and excellent communication skills in complex or end-of-life moments.

  • Ability to collaborate actively with nursing staff, physiotherapy, and other medical specialties.

  • Orientation towards compliance with patient safety protocols and quality indicators.
