Today, it offers a wide range of cloud services: bare metal, containerization, serverless, AI, storage, network products, etc.
In a context of growth, driven by the challenges of digital sovereignty, artificial intelligence, and critical infrastructures, Scaleway continues to develop its engineering teams.
Why join Scaleway?
Join a benchmark player in the European sovereign cloud, backed by the Iliad group.
Work on critical products at the heart of cloud infrastructure.
Join a collaborative engineering culture that fosters autonomy, learning, and continuous improvement.
Job description
Recruitment context
Scaleway is strengthening its Block Storage team, in charge of the development, reliability, and optimization of strategic storage products for its cloud offering. The team works primarily on two major products: Block Storage, already at the heart of the Scaleway offering, and File Storage, a new complementary product currently under development.
This recruitment takes place in a context of high technical activity, with challenges surrounding distributed storage, performance, scalability, and service reliability.
Company environment
You will join an international, technical, and collaborative environment within a team of engineers working on critical infrastructure products. The team operates across a broad technical chain, from environments close to bare metal to orchestration and service exposure via API.
The position is therefore not limited to classic backend development: it involves a real understanding of system, storage, performance, and distributed infrastructure issues.
Hierarchical reporting
The position reports to the Engineering Manager of the Block Storage team. You will join a team currently composed of 5 Software Engineers and 1 Engineering Manager, with a growth trajectory toward 8 Software Engineers and 1 Engineering Manager.
Current challenges/projects
The position aims to contribute to the design, development, maintenance, and optimization of Scaleway storage products. The main challenges focus on
Developing new features for Block Storage.
Contributing to the development of the File Storage offering.
Improving the performance, availability, and reliability of storage services.
Orchestrating and operating distributed storage clusters.
Resolving complex system issues surrounding I/O, latency, filesystems, and performance.
Your main missions/responsibilities will be as follows
Design and develop new features for the Block Storage product.
Participate in the development of the File Storage product.
Develop, maintain, and evolve backend services in Go.
Design and improve APIs and orchestration tools for storage services.
Diagnose, investigate, and resolve complex technical incidents.
Work on system issues related to I/O, latency, filesystems, CPU, or disk load.
Contribute to the operation, orchestration, and optimization of Ceph clusters.
Collaborate with datacenter, hardware, network, SRE, support, and product teams.
Participate in code reviews, technical documentation, and onboarding improvement.
Eventually participate in a level 2 on-call rotation, after an appropriate onboarding phase.

Profile soughtExperience and Education
Higher education in computer science, software development, systems, infrastructure, or equivalent.
Confirmed experience in software development, ideally in complex technical environments.
At least 5 years of experience in a Software Engineer, SRE, system engineer, platform engineer, or equivalent role is desired.
Experience with infrastructure, storage, cloud, hosting, bare metal products, or critical production environments is a real asset.
This position can correspond to several types of profiles
Backend Software Engineer with a strong appetite for systems, infrastructure, and storage.
SRE or system engineer wishing to evolve toward more software development.
Engineer who has worked on distributed storage, filesystems, low-level Linux, cloud, or advanced operations.
Technical skills
Go: development of backend services, APIs, or orchestration tools.
Linux / systems: very good system culture and ability to understand what is happening under the hood.
Ceph: concrete experience or strong ability to ramp up on distributed storage.
Storage: understanding of I/O concepts, latency, CPU load, disk load, block size, filesystem, performance, and availability.
PostgreSQL: ability to manage or operate relational data in a technical context.
Debugging: ability to investigate real incidents and solve complex problems.
API, orchestration, automation, and critical production environments.
Knowledge of NFS, SAN, SMB, Ext4, ZFS, Lustre, DAOS, GlusterFS, MinIO, or NVMe over Fabric is a plus.
Experience in C, C++, or Rust is also appreciated.
Particular attention will be paid to the real depth of storage experience. Simple exposure to Ceph via Kubernetes, Rook, or Helm, without understanding the underlying operation, will not necessarily be sufficient.
Behavioral skills
Autonomy: ability to take charge of complex technical subjects.
Technical curiosity: desire to understand, dig deeper, and learn on your own.
Analytical mind: ability to simplify complex systems and reason in the face of real incidents.
Team spirit: taste for sharing, feedback, code review, and collective work.
Technical humility: ability to debate without ego and to progress with the team.
Reliability: sense of responsibility in a critical production environment.
Clear written and oral communication, especially in a distributed team.
