*Along with your CV, the cover letter is your first contact with the recruiter. But how do you stand out from the crowd of other applications? Discover our tips for writing a cover letter that gets read every time.*

Whether you are looking for a job or considering a career change, it's time to set out to conquer companies! Your tools: a tailored CV and the essential cover letter! Whether you opt for a cover letter sent by post or by email, the text must be crafted to convince the recruiter to meet you. Here are seven tips to help you write a personalized cover letter for an effective application!

## 1. Get straight to the point to hook the recruiter

Your cover letter or email must quickly capture the recruiter's interest. Right from the first few sentences, show how well your profile fits the target position. Your opening hook must be punchy.

Avoid cliché phrases, overly long sentences, or overly passionate declarations! In 2026, recruiters spend an average of fifteen to twenty seconds reading a letter. Be brief, concise, and impactful from the very first line.

## 2. Tailor your cover letter to the job offer

For every company you target, customizing your cover letter is essential. The content will naturally differ if you are responding to a job offer or sending an unsolicited application, for example. What's more, the recruiter needs to feel that the letter was written specifically for them. For an effective cover letter:

- address the job offer point by point;
- use the company's keywords and vocabulary;
- research the company to show you understand its positioning;
- if possible, address your application directly to the recruiter using their name.

## 3. Stand out with a unique letter

All candidates are "motivated" and "dynamic" when applying for a job. So ditch the standard formulas and adjectives that the recruiter reads in every cover letter. Be unique! A cover letter is a great way to give the recruiter a glimpse of your personality.

This is especially important today: 74% of recruiters claim they can spot a machine-written letter, and 80% of them do not trust AI-generated content. Authenticity has become a full-fledged selection criterion.

## 4. Share your vision of the role

A cover letter is a tool to convince the recruiter to read your CV and invite you to an interview. It's not a repeat of your CV! The aim of the cover letter or email is to concisely show the company what you can bring to their organization.

So use it to share your career goals, your vision of the role, or detail a success that will make you stand out from other candidates!

## 5. Polish your writing style

Use a direct writing style. Avoid conditional tenses and negative phrasing. This will keep you from getting lost in complicated phrasing and protect you from potential grammatical errors. By opting for short, concise sentences, your cover letter will read like an impactful, dynamic pitch!

57% of recruiters say that cover letters influence their hiring decisions. Make their job easier: be concise and punchy.

Naturally, proofread your letter and have someone else read it too. Goal: zero spelling mistakes!

## 6. Pay attention to the layout

Clean layout, comfortable font size and style, structured paragraphs... clear presentation is essential.

Keep in mind that email software is not always compatible: so forget background colors, logos, icons, and image-format signatures!

In 2026, cover letters often take the form of an application email rather than a separate document attached to a CV. In this case, pay special attention to the subject line: it should allow the recruiter to qualify your profile before even opening the email.

## 7. Get a response

If you want an interview, ask for it! Prompt a meeting with the recruiter by asking a question at the end of your letter or expressing your desire to share more with them. Better yet, engage the recruiter with relevant questions about the assignment or position.

**A few extra tips**

For a cover email:

- include your cover text directly in the body of the email to save the recruiter from opening multiple attachments;
- fill in the email "Subject" line, and don't forget the job reference number if responding to a specific listing.

If you have little experience, a detailed and well-crafted cover letter can reassure a recruiter looking at a junior CV.

**AI can help... provided you personalize it**

A third of job seekers say they use artificial intelligence to write their cover letters. These tools can save you time: structuring your ideas, finding phrasing, correcting spelling. But AI comes with a risk: producing a generic, lifeless text that doesn't truly reflect your personality.

The golden rule: use AI as a starting point, never as a finished product. The added value lies in customization: mentioning company projects, linking your experience to their needs, and adding authentic details that a machine cannot invent.

For temporary workers, a cover letter is not mandatory. But it offers a real advantage with recruiters, so don't overlook it! If you have any questions, our advisors are here to help!
