*Prepare the content and refine the form: with Actual, get plenty of advice to succeed in your interview and land your dream job! Currently employed or job-seeking, you've worked on your application and secured an interview: congratulations! This decisive step in the recruitment process can sometimes be stressful. Stay calm and put all the chances on your side with our 7 tips to ace your job interview!*

## 1. Make a good impression

There's no second chance to make a good first impression at your job interview. You'll need to hit the mark to send positive signals to the recruiter:

- wear an outfit suited to the context and the company;
- be punctual by planning your route in advance;
- greet your interviewer with a firm handshake;
- smile naturally and maintain eye contact with your interviewer;
- pay attention to your speech and posture.

> **Good to know:*** many interviews now take place via video conference. The same rules apply, with a few extra precautions: test your connection and equipment beforehand, set up in a quiet location with a neutral background, position the camera at eye level, and look into it when speaking to maintain eye contact.*

## 2. Show interest in the hiring company

Essential when applying: research the company! This will allow you to have a smooth conversation with the recruiter and demonstrate your motivation. Go gathering information:

- browse the company's website;
- list its values, challenges, and goals;
- check out employees' profiles on social media;
- do research on forums, media, and professional websites;
- get to know its competitors.

## 3. Prepare for the interview

Anticipate the recruiter's sometimes challenging questions: "Tell me about yourself.", "What are your strengths/weaknesses?", "Why are you applying with us?", "Why do you think you are the ideal candidate?", etc.

To tackle these questions, prepare for the job interview:

- think about your career plan;
- identify your skills and achievements that align with the targeted position;
- build a solid pitch with concrete examples;
- structure your presentation.

To be fully prepared, practice under real conditions: do a mock interview with a trusted friend or advisor!

## 4. Engage with the recruiter

Stay focused, take your time to formulate clear and relevant answers. Don't hesitate to ask questions yourself. Both those you prepared in advance and those that come to mind during the conversation. It is always well-received in a job interview to follow up on information or answers you are given. This moment should be seen as an exchange that demonstrates your interest in the position and the company.

## 5. Be yourself

When the pressure builds up, following this advice isn't always easy. Yet it is the most essential of all! You are looking for a fulfilling job, and the company needs a skilled professional who will fit into the team: it's a win-win. The job interview is the key moment to discover if your aspirations align with the company's expectations. For it to be a match, be honest in every way:

- remain transparent about your personality, your skills, and areas for growth;
- answer questions about your background and skills sincerely.

## 6. Wrap up the job interview with style

For a job interview to be truly successful, you need to know how to close it properly. Feel free to ask your interviewer about the next steps in the hiring process or when you can expect a response.

Thank your interviewer. Greet the people who welcomed you and those you pass on your way out. It's important to make a good impression on all staff. A courteous and respectful attitude from the moment you arrive until you leave is a strong sign of successful integration.

## 7. Follow up after the interview

Send prompt feedback to your interviewer: a brief thank-you email summarizing the interview and how you see yourself in the role. A very simple initiative that once again shows your motivation.

The job interview is the ultimate step in the hiring process to find a job: preparing for it is therefore essential. These tips will help you get ready for the interview, feel more relaxed, and establish a high-quality connection. Above all, be confident: if the recruiter decided to meet you, it's because your profile interests them. They are just waiting to be confirmed in their decision.
